How-to videos have become an essential part of the user experience in the tech and software industries, but when it comes to localisation there are major obstacles. While scripts can be translated, recreating foreign-language screen recordings, synchronising voiceovers, and guiding the production process demand technical expertise that most translation teams simply don’t have. The core problem is that very few professionals combine strong technical translation skills with the technical expertise to create and edit videos, leaving a critical gap in the localisation process. This workshop will demystify that process and equip you with the practical knowledge needed to bridge the gap between translation and multimedia production.
Led by Dr Jody Byrne, a technical translator with extensive experience in video production, this two-hour session will show you how to approach video localisation from different angles: creating videos from scratch, translating and adapting scripts, utilizing AI tools where appropriate, and collaborating effectively with media producers. With clear, practical examples, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to add real value to your clients by taking on one of the most pressing challenges in technical communication today.

Jody Byrne:
El doctor Jody Byrne es un galardonado comunicador técnico y el autor de los libros Technical Translation (2006) y Scientific & Technical Translation Explained (2012). Es doctor en Comunicación Técnica y Psicología Cognitiva de Dublin City University y ha impartido clases de traducción técnica y tecnología de la traducción en Dublin City University y University of Sheffield, así como de diseño digital en University College Dublin. También ha sido examinador externo de varios programas de traducción técnica en todo el mundo. Como arquitecto de desarrollo de asistencia al usuario (UA) en SAP, ha dirigido equipos creativos de contenido técnico y ha creado un equipo de prototipos para investigar, diseñar y desarrollar nuevas herramientas y métodos de comunicación técnica. Actualmente, es director de UA Futures Research, donde supervisa la investigación de nuevas tendencias en comunicación técnica. También escribe y produce videos para su blog, Experimental Communicator.
