Andrew Benson, born in the United Kingdom, has a Masters in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford. He also studied at the universities of Bologna, Athens and St Petersburg. Having completed a stage in interpreting at the European Commission, Brussels, he worked as a translator for the Council of Europe in Strasbourg for almost 10 years - he focused on translation from Greek in a major case before the European Court of Human Rights. After a two-year break co-writing the Rough Guide to Argentina (followed by other guide books including the Rough Guide to Buenos Aires), he worked as a freelance translator for several international organizations, including UNESCO, the UN in New York and Geneva, the International Atomic Energy Agency, United Nations Environment Programme, International Labour Organization, World Health Organization, Inter-Parliamentary Union, Universal Postal Union, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and World Food Programme. From 2002 to 2012, he was mainly based in Buenos Aires. Since December 2014 he has been the Head of English Translation at the Registry of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
